Ozma was Here
The end of wholesale for cult-favourite Ozma kicked off with a Hawai’ian Pau Hana.
The scene was a haze of earth tones and perfectly arranged seasonal and locally sourced bouquets as small businesswomen, photographers, and sustainable fashion lovers gathered in Here the Store on the 27th of May.
Heidi Baker, owner and founder of Ozma of California, collaborated with Mayo Kawamura and Yuki Kimura, owners of Here, to host an event to celebrate sustainability, style and the end of wholesale Ozma.
Ozma’s entrancing trans-seasonal colour palette filled the store. Raw silk tees in a flood of taupe, white, and black; floating linen pants and jumpsuits complemented by their cult-favourite Ozma bandana, of which 100% of the profits are donated to WRRAP, the Women’s Reproductive Rights Assistance Program.
This simplistic, timeless woman-run business has mastered the art of creating pieces perfect for establishing a capsule wardrobe. So the announcement of Ozma of California being phased out of wholesale by designer Baker was no surprise to followers of the brand. The decision came after this intentionally-small brand decided to step up in sustainability; all Ozma products are made in California and Peru, as Baker has significant ties to both places.
“We intentionally keep our production small local or artisanal, using only sustainable fibres. Our approach promotes quality of life - ensuring that every person involved in the creation and production of our clothing is treated with deep respect and fairness,” states the values section of the Ozma website.
Although the phase out from wholesale will take place over two years. Here The Store founders, Mayo Kawamura and Yuki Kimura, were entranced by the brand's commitment to sustainability and ethics and partnered with stylist Lindsey Higa and beverage company Gazoz to plan an exclusive launch to celebrate Bakers arrival.
When complimented on the event, Kawamura commented, "we think it went really well! and are looking forward to more events in the future!"
The Ozma products will remain at Here the Store until phase out, online purchase of products is available at the retailers listed below.
